3 Reasons to Teach Robotics in 2022

Robotics is quite the buzz word these days. With a push to foster more innovation and at the same time, mathematical and analytical skills, robotics is the perfect vehicle for learning - and having fun while doing it! 

Robotics is the branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots. Nowadays, robots are everywhere! For example, in the assembly line of the automobile industry, almost 90% of work is done by robots. 

This gives us plenty of ideas to encourage students to learn more about this expansive and engaging world that will surely secure a thriving future. 

Here are 3 good reasons to teach and emphasize the importance of having a robotics program in place.

1. Makes Learning Fun 

Companies such as Fisher-Price and LEGO know the importance of fun in learning and are investing efforts by developing toys and applications to show that Robotics can be easy to learn and teach. 

Nowadays, kids can play around and discover functions and activities around robotics so that they can realize it is not only about programming, but also designing, construction, and operation. 

This way, children are able to explore, learn and have fun instead of having to choose between one or the other. 

2. Encourages Interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

STEM has been gaining relevance in the last 20 years, and it is no wonder why. The jobs of the 21st century demand STEM skills, and require the next generation of leaders to be creative problem solvers with a data-backed approach to everything they do. They have to understand the “why” and the “how,” and be able to implement solutions to local and global challenges as quickly as possible. 

Robotics programs are helping kids as young as five and six years old learn valuable STEM skills, because while they tinker with nuts and bolts and coding, they start to see the possibilities! It is essential that we can provide children with the best technological tools to set them up for a challenging and ever-changing world.

In addition, other courses in newer technologies like Coding and Semiconductors also help children adapt better to the future. 

Now more than ever, STEM is being embraced by kids with a greater rate of acceptance because their imagination and creativity allows them to faces newer challenges head-on.

3. Promotes Leadership and Teamwork

When students interact with robots in the classroom or at home and make them perform various motions and tasks, they are developing a sense of fluid creation and control; a sense of planning and execution. 

These skills will no doubt continue to grow and, in turn, transfer to leadership and teamwork. 

When assembling robots in teams, some students are great at speaking and can verbally bring ideas to life. On the flip side, there are students who may not be as vocal but may lead behind the scenes by guiding their peers or suggesting new perspectives. 

The ability to come together as different types of leaders, communicate with each other, and utilize their personal strengths will be essential for their lives, no matter if they become an artist, an engineer, or a business executive.
