Why STEM Education is so Important
It is crazy how STEM occupations have been significantly growing over the last decade!
According to the US Department of Commerce, these occupations have increased up to 24% compared to other occupations, and STEM degree holders have a higher income even in non-STEM careers.
In the US, the economy is strongly supported by scientific and technological development. As we introduce STEM education to our students, we are inherently contributing to helping the stability of the US economy.
A curriculum that is STEM-based takes inspiration from real-life situations to help the student learn. For instance, programs like Exploration of Robotics integrate multiple resources to provide hands-on and minds-on lessons for the student.
Hands-on learning is a must!
Now that we are facing the benefits and challenges of both globalization and a knowledge-based economy, it is crucial to acquire 21st-century skills in order to become the next STEM-Generation of innovators.
Furthermore, STEM education is helping to bridge the ethnic and gender gaps sometimes found in math and science fields. Initiatives have been established to empower the role of women and minorities in STEM-related fields.
STEM literacy plays a critical role not only for our students, but for the global economy. Even if you look at worldwide math and science scores, you can see that while the US remains competitive, we have some work to do. We need to be raising up the next generation of innovators and engineers, and that starts in primary and secondary education.
