NextWaveSTEM Launches "What Can I Code?" After-School Initiative for Newark Middle Schoolers

NEWARK, NJ –11/6/2025 – NextWaveSTEM, a leading provider of K-12 STEM education, today announced the launch of its innovative "What Can I Code?" after-school workshop initiative, set to engage approximately 800-1,000 seventh and eighth-grade students across 42 schools within the Newark Public School District. This program is designed to introduce middle schoolers to the exciting world of computer science and its diverse applications in various industries and career paths.

The "What Can I Code?" workshop aims to demystify coding and demonstrate its practical relevance, fostering essential 21st-century skills among young learners. Through hands-on, interactive lessons, students will explore the fundamentals of coding while applying them to engaging, real-world projects.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Curriculum Focus: The 45-minute after-school sessions will combine modules on Drone Simulator, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Game Design, providing a broad introduction to key areas of computer science.

  • Skill Development: Students will build basic coding skills, problem-solving abilities, and creative thinking, all while understanding how these skills translate into tangible outcomes.

  • Schedule and Duration: Workshops will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, commencing October 15th and concluding on March 15th.

  • Accessibility: The initiative targets 42 schools across Newark ISD, ensuring widespread access to high-quality STEM education.

  • Engaging Environment: Each session is designed for small class sizes, with fewer than 25 students, ensuring personalized attention and an optimal learning experience.
